The VM1 'Tanuki' is a decoy missile manufactured by Tenshu-ICS. It is designed to support the Kenjutsu range of guided armaments developed and manufactured by ICS in collaboration with Chiron Dynamics, a fact indicated by its 'VM1' designation: "Vacuum, Mimic, no.1".
The VM1 is not a weapon in itself, but is instead designed to mimic the signature of one and draw the fire of enemy point defences. When fired alongside a live missile, one or more VM1 units may be able to saturate point defences long enough for a true missile to intercept the target.
